Tour de Taco

My original plan for the summer of 2015 was to tour Minneapolis and St. Paul via bicycle and try all the taco joints on the list below. After changing jobs a few times and running into an unexpectedly busy summer, I had to 86 that idea. However, I have still taken your suggestions and recommendations and compiled them here. I’m still actively trying to get to all of these places before the year is out so stay tuned for updates and reviews.

Still to come:

Other taco joints of note that are outside of Minneapolis and St. Paul:

Boca Chica Taco House on Wabasha! Awesome ride there. I like the fast food place better than the restaurant across the street.

Thanks for the suggestions! I definitely have some St. Paul places on my list. I think it’s time I start checking them out. Hopefully I can get a St. Paul taqueria or 2 get featured in the next couple of weeks.

I went to Pineda in MPLS off Lake St. I was incredibly disappointed. However, considering you suggested the W. St. Paul location I will give Pineda another go. Check out my review.

How does TacoCat work? Says right on the website – Call Number, Get Tacos! Easy peasy, as long as you’re somewhere in South Mpls.

I was directed here when I mentioned today that I would enjoy spending my life eating and ranking every taco in the city.

One you don’t have on your list but should consider – Taco Tuesday at Mayslack’s in NE. Mayslack’s is a straight up blue collar bar, and they’re not exactly known for their accurate renditions of multicultural foodstuffs, but I have always found their taco night to be not at all fancy, but incredibly satisfying.

When you go to WSK, don’t eff around, get the La Panza. If they’re out (it happens), then go back and different day and get the damn La Panza.

what I meant by don’t know by how taco cat will work is that I live outside their delivery area, so I’ll have to either meet them somewhere or order from them when I’m at a friend’s house. Since I wanted Tour de Taco to incorporate biking and tacos I wasn’t sure how to make it work for me. But I think I’ve got a plan.

And thanks for the suggestion Sarah! You will see Mayslack’s taco Tuesday added to this list shortly.

And I WILL get the La Panza. I don’t doubt your recommendation seeing as you clearly share my taco passion. May I ask how you were directed here? Because I’m pumped to see traffic coming through and other such enthusiasm for tacos.

    Lastly, wanna get tacos sometime?

    Hi Kelly,
I have a few recommendations for you:

If you get a chance to go to St. Cloud, you should try Bravo Burrito. Here is the link to their website: http://www.bravoburritos.com/ They have a few tacos on their menu, but as their name suggests they have several burritos to choose from. I love their Chicken Mole, and a friend of mine loves their Pork Verde. They also offer Chicken Verde, Beef Colorado and Shredded Beef as well as Carnitas, Chorizo and Shrimp. They have a few different hot sauces as well, from a medium up to a habanero sauce. I don’t like super spicy, so I don’t know if their hotter sauces are any good. I have never been to Mexico, so I can’t vouch for their “authenticity” but it is better than the standard Mexican food served at many restaurants.

I also saw that someone above had mentioned Taco House. I love their fried flour tacos; the sides (rice and beans) are nothing to brag about but the tacos make up for it. I can’t vouch for any of the other items on their menu, as I always get the fried flour tacos. Also, as someone else mentioned they are owned by Boco Chica, another Mexican restaurant just down the street. However, I don’t care for their food. Here is the link to the Taco House website: http://www.bocachicatacohouse.com/

The third option is Baja Sol. This is a chain restaurant with several locations around the Twin Cities (you can find their locations on their website: http://www.baja-sol.com/ordereze/home.aspx). They offer a couple different taco options, as well as burritos. They have several different meats to choose from (my two favorites are steak and grilled chicken). Their also offer shrimp and fish tacos; I have had both and both are good. They also have a salsa bar (the one in the Quarry offers free unlimited chips and salsa with the purchase of a meal – not sure if the other locations also offer that). They have pica de gallo, verde, a medium red sauce, as well as one or two seasonal fresh salsas (the peach and mango salsa is a favorite).

Hope you get a chance to check out one or more of these places. Happy Tacoing!!

Thanks for the rec’s! Oddly enough I lived in St. Cloud when I went to SCSU but never went to Bravo Burrito.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Senor Wong’s tacos in Saint Paul, and the taco food truck across the street from the Downtowner Car Wash on East 7th Street in Saint Paul.

HI! I would recommend Tavial Grill on West 7th Street in Saint Paul. Great family owned restaurant! I also just found Catrina’s Grill in Oakdale, this past weekend! The meat is to die for! Simply amazing! http://www.catrinasgrill.com/
